When God Gets Your Attention
You’ve probably heard the phrase, “Be careful what you pray for.”
Sometimes, the answers don’t come the way we expect… but they come in ways we can’t ignore.
In 2005, at the age of 40, my job was outsourced. I had been working as a software developer, and if I’m honest, I was already feeling burned out. Deep down, I knew I was ready for something different—I just didn’t know what.
So I prayed a very specific prayer.
Dear God,
Please guide me and lead me to what to do next. Open my eyes. Open my ears. And please don’t be subtle. Make it obvious so I can’t miss it.
Amen.
At the time, I thought I was praying about a job.
And yes—about 10 months later, I found one. Looking back, I can see it was exactly where I needed to be.
But that wasn’t the real answer to my prayer.
The real answer came four years later.
In January of 2009, I came across something that changed everything. In that moment, the truth became clear in a way I could no longer ignore.
It was the kind of answer I had asked for—impossible to miss.
When Clarity Changes Everything
That moment forced me to see what I had been avoiding. And while it was painful, it was also the beginning of something deeper.
Sometimes God doesn’t just change our circumstances—He reveals what we’ve been unable or unwilling to see.
